MALE FACTOR INFERTILITY

Male infertility now affects one in twenty men and 40% of male infertility cases are due to poor sperm quality. The average male sperm count has dropped 45% from 113 million/ml to 66 million/ml and the number of men with low these sperm counts has tripled. What this means is that the average sperm count of a 30 year old today is about a quarter of what it was in 1925.

Our individual treatment plan aims to address:

  • Low sperm count
  • Low Sperm Motility
  • Low Sperm Concentration
  • Low Sperm Morphology
  • Low levels of testosterone
  • Low Libido
  • Erectile Dysfunction
  • Aids detox from exposure to environmental, dietary & workplaces toxins
  • Support during IVF, ICSI & IUI proceduresChinese medicine aims to improve sperm health and male fertility.

Sperm is evaluated according to four main parameters:

  • Volume of sperm (how much semen per ejaculation)
  • Density/concentration/count of sperm (how many million sperm/ml)
  • Morphology of sperm (% of normal versus abnormal in shape)
  • Motility of sperm (% of moving/swimming sperm)

If any of these parameters are found to be out of range, fertility is compromised. Many men present with sperm results that are borderline and deemed ‘fine’. However, there are some other considerations we like to take into account when assessing the values attributed to sperm on a sperm analysis.

As part of our preconception care program, acupuncture is used to increase blood flow via the small blood vessels of the testes, thereby improving nutrient supply and prompting optimum sperm quality for conception.

Acupuncture has, through many clinical trials, been shown to improve sperm quality and increase the number of sperm without structural defects, particularly in cases of abnormal forms and low motility.

Sperm cells have a maturation of around 120 days, therefore what you do today will affect the quality of your sperm 3 months later at conception. Diet, lifestyle and environmental factors will either help or hinder the chances of your sperm conceiving a strong healthy embryo.

Treatments for semen fertility challenges will take a minimum of 100 days before changes maybe seen in semen analysis. Semen analysis should be done with a minimum of 3 days abstinence but no more then 5 days.

Here are some ways in which we may improve parameters:

  • Balancing Yin and Yang: In Chinese medicine, balance is key. Its imbalances in the body's Yin and Yang energies can contribute to fertility issues. Acupuncture and herbal treatments aim to restore this balance, potentially improving sperm quality.
  • Regulating Hormones: Chinese herbal medicine aims to regulate hormonal imbalances that can affect sperm production and quality.
  • Enhancing Blood Flow: Acupuncture is known to improve blood circulation throughout the body, including to the testes. Better blood flow to the testes aims to promote healthier sperm production.
  • Reducing Stress: Stress can negatively impact sperm health. Acupuncture is often used for stress reduction, which can indirectly improve sperm quality by reducing the body's stress response.
  • Improving Motility: The use of Chinese herbal remedies may also have properties that may increase sperm motility.
  • Addressing Underlying Health Conditions: Chinese medicine takes a holistic approach, considering the overall health of the individual. It may address underlying health issues that could be affecting sperm quality, such as obesity, diabetes, or high blood pressure.
  • Diet and Lifestyle Guidance: Your consultation includes dietary recommendations and lifestyle advice to support overall health and fertility, this includes education about eliminating toxins and free radicals that can harm sperm. Herbal remedies with antioxidant properties may be prescribed for this purpose.
